Thursday, April 09, 2009 from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM (CT)
Attendance is FREE
but we ask that you volunteer for at least one evening of tech improv
with Gnap! Theater Projects at an evening of your convenience.
Course Description: There are
many similarities between improvising on stage and improvising in the
tech booth. The main difference is the technology involved and learning
the language of that technology, whether it be music, sound effects,
lighting, or video. This course is aimed at students interested in
learning how to support scene work through lighting and instrumental
music offers. It is targeted to the intermediate and advanced
improvisers interested in honing skills in listening, heightening, and
improvising with music; as well as beginner improv students interested
in performance improv, but who don't feel ready for the stage.
Credentials: Sara Farr is a
strong advocate of the emotional power of improvised tech, and it's
ability to boost the theatricality of improv shows. She has scored
several runs of shows including: "Lola," "Cochise," "Ka-Baam,"
"Improvised Shakespeare," "Start Trekkin," "Harry Potter," "Six
Degrees," as well as several short-form and one-off shows. Sara is also
the cardinal sound improviser for "Get Up" and has performed with them
at improv festivals in Seattle, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and San
Francisco. This summer, Sara will be working with
Parallelogramophonograph to create a new improv show scored entirely
with Aaron Copland music.
Sara was the winner of the AIC's "2008 Best Tech Improviser" award.
